well said, ratnakar. the Kerala school of mathematics and astronomy was a pioneer, and the impact of its infinite series is still being felt. I was once talking to a navy commander in the US, and they still carry books of sine tables on board for navigational purposes in case GPS fails! with the sine tables, an accurate calendar and a sextant, you can figure out your exact location on the ocean. this of course was used by 18th century European colonials to navigate the open ocean, too, and attack India among others. before this, they never sailed out of sight of the land
